Q: What Is Book Taco Family?

Created by Ace Turner, Modified on Wed, 7 Oct at 3:56 PM by Ace Turner

Book Taco Family is a free portal for parents and guardians that connects home and school. It gives families a clear view of their child’s reading in Book Taco and simple ways to support it at home. Learn more at app.booktaco.com/book-taco-family.

What families can do

  • See reading progress — a dashboard shows what the child is reading and a weekly snapshot with reading minutes, books finished, quizzes passed and last activity.
  • Read teacher messages — teachers can send notes to families from Book Taco.
  • Use Shelf Control — parents can lock books they don’t want their child to read.
  • Get reading tips — ideas for helping the child read at home.
  • Follow contests and find prize ideas.
  • Find a book and see the Top books.
  • Receive reports by email — reading reports are sent to the family’s inbox.
Note: Understanding Progress, and Shelf Control by reading level and category, are available when Book Taco Library is part of the school’s account. The rest of Book Taco Family works without it.

Who can use it

  • Family accounts are free, and Book Taco Family is already available to every Book Taco teacher. There is nothing to turn on.
  • A family only sees its own children. One account can follow several children, even when they have different teachers.
  • Families can’t sign up on their own. A parent joins when the child’s teacher sends an invitation.

How to get started

  • Teachers: open Students, then use Actions → Invite Parent for one student or Invite All Families for the whole class. You can also print a Parent Letter with a QR code.
  • Parents: open the invitation email (or scan the QR code), create a password, and log in at /parent/login.
  • Want to see it first? Visit app.booktaco.com/book-taco-family for an overview, a tutorial video and answers to common questions.
