Q: What Is the Difference Between Bulk Rostering, Clever, and ClassLink?

What are the rostering options in Book Taco?

A: Book Taco supports three ways to create and connect teacher and student accounts: Bulk Rostering, Clever Library, and ClassLink. Choosing the right method before setup prevents duplicate accounts, missing students, and classroom syncing issues later. Once a rostering method is selected, it should be used consistently for all participating teachers and students.

What is Bulk Rostering?

A: Bulk Rostering is the manual upload option managed by Book Taco support. It is ideal for schools using email-based teacher accounts.

  • You provide Book Taco with a roster of teachers and students.
  • Book Taco creates and connects all accounts on your behalf.
  • Teachers and students receive their login credentials by email.

To get started, contact Book Taco support and request the roster spreadsheet to complete.

What is Clever Library Rostering?

A: Clever Rostering is for schools that use the Clever platform. Each teacher installs Book Taco from their Clever Library, and student accounts are automatically created and rostered — no manual uploads are required.

Important details to keep in mind:

  • Book Taco works only through the Clever Library. Teachers must have access to it.
  • Book Taco is not a Clever District application — district-level auto-provisioning is not supported.
  • Student rostering happens only after the teacher installs the app from their Clever Library.

What is ClassLink Rostering?

A: ClassLink Rostering is for districts that use ClassLink. Book Taco rosters students automatically, and both student and teacher accounts sync from your ClassLink data. To enable the integration, your district's ClassLink administrator must send Book Taco an authorization request.

Which rostering method should I choose?

A: Choose based on the tools your school already uses:

  • Use Bulk Rostering if your teachers log in with a school email and you prefer Book Taco to handle the account creation process.
  • Use Clever if your teachers have access to the Clever Library.
  • Use ClassLink if your district manages accounts through ClassLink.

If you're unsure which option fits your school or district, contact Book Taco support before getting started.

Can I switch rostering methods later?

A: It is strongly recommended that you stick to the method you choose from the start. Changing rostering methods after setup can result in duplicate accounts or disconnected classrooms.
