The Book Taco Library is a curated collection of interactive books with guided reading built right into your Book Taco account, replacing the separate Book Nacho program. Each title comes packed with vocabulary spotlights, embedded quizzes, videos, and audio — keeping students engaged from the first page to the last. Teachers browse the full catalog, build curated lists for their class, and control what students can access, all without leaving the platform.
Opening the Book Taco Library
In the teacher sidebar, click Book Taco Library. The hub page appears with two entry points:
- View All Books — opens the full catalog to browse, preview, and manage access.
- Manage Lists — opens the list studio where you create and organize curated sets of books for your students.
The Book Taco Library is enabled per account. If you do not see it in your sidebar, contact your school administrator or Book Taco support to have the feature activated.
Browsing the Catalog
The catalog gives you a full preview of every available title before you share it with students. From the catalog page you can:
- Search by title, level, or topic using the search bar.
- Browse by topic using the shortcut buttons below the search bar.
- Filter by reading level (Level 1, 2, or 3) and sort by title, newest, or oldest.
- Preview any title by clicking its card to explore the content before assigning it.
- Open the list studio directly from the catalog using the Manage lists button in the page header — handy when you want to add books while you browse.
Blocking Books
By default, the full catalog is visible to students. To restrict specific titles, click Manage blocks in the catalog header. The access dialog lets you block individual books from student view without removing them from the catalog.
The block count badge next to the button gives you a quick summary of how many titles are currently restricted.
Creating and Managing Lists
Lists let you group books into curated sets — a themed reading unit, a differentiated collection, or a must-read list tied to a contest goal.
From Manage Lists:
- Click New list to create a list and give it a name.
- In the right panel, use Books by category to browse available titles by topic, or search by title.
- Add books to the selected list. Drag and drop to reorder them.
- Use Clear books to reset the right panel without deleting the list.
Lists can also be linked to reading contests as required titles, so only books from your list count toward the contest goal.
What Students Experience
When students open the Book Taco Library, they choose a reading level (Level 1, 2, or 3) and explore books organized by category. Each title is an interactive experience — not just a page to scroll through:
- Guided reading — a built-in reader tracks progress page by page, with a Read To Me button that reads the text aloud.
- Vocabulary spotlights — key words are highlighted throughout the story for students to tap and explore.
- Embedded quizzes — multiple-choice questions test comprehension directly inside the book.
- Videos and audio — some titles include videos to watch and songs to listen to, woven into the reading experience.
As students engage with each title they earn Reader Rewards badges: Story Finisher for reading to the last page, Quiz Champion for completing the quiz, Word Explorer for tapping every spotlight word, Video Explorer for watching an embedded video, and Audio Explorer for listening to the book's song.
Students can also use Random to get a surprise book pick, and track everything they have read or started in My Library.
