How to Enable or Disable Games in Book Taco

The Games and Coins page gives you full control over student game access. You can turn individual games on or off, restrict the days students can open the games page, limit how many games they can play per day and preview any game before enabling it.

Step 1: Go to Games and Coins

  • In the left sidebar, click Games and Coins.
  • The page has two tabs: Settings (for game access rules and individual game toggles) and Game Coins (for managing student coin balances).
Group overrides apply. Both the allowed days setting and the per-day limit can be overridden by group-level settings. If a student is in a group, that group's Games Allowed Days value takes precedence over the one set here.

Step 2: Set when games are available

  • In the Settings tab, the top section has two dropdowns that control access for the entire games page:

Games Allowed Days

  • Choose the days of the week students can open the games page:
    • Always Available (default) — no day restriction.
    • Weekdays Only, Weekends Only, Friday and Weekend — broad day ranges.
    • Mondays Only through Fridays Only — a single specific day each week.
    • Game Page Off — completely hides the games page from all students.

Limit games per day

  • Choose how many games a student can play in a single day: Unlimited (default) or a fixed number from 1 to 30.
  • Both dropdowns save automatically as soon as you change the value — a "Successfully changed data" toast confirms each save.

Step 3: Enable or disable individual games

  • Below the access settings, all available games are displayed in three sections: Bonus games, Holiday games, and Regular games.
  • Each game card shows the game image, how many times it has been played, an Enable game toggle, and a Previewbutton.
    • Toggle ON — the game is available to students. The image is shown in full color.
    • Toggle OFF — the game is hidden from students. The image turns grayscale immediately.
  • Each toggle saves automatically the moment you flip it — no Save button needed.
  • Click Preview to open and play the game yourself before deciding whether to enable it for students.
  • Click the Played X times link on any card to see a list of which students played that game, on what date, and how many times.
Holiday games are date-controlled. Holiday games only appear during their designated period. Outside of those dates they are hidden automatically, regardless of your toggle setting.

Step 4: Reorder games

  • Within each section (Bonus, Holiday, Regular), you can drag and drop game cards to change the order in which they appear for students.
  • The new order saves automatically after each drag. A "Order Updated" toast confirms the save.
Q: I set Games Allowed Days to a specific day but some students can still access games on other days. Why?
A: Students in groups may have a different Games Allowed Days setting at the group level. Group settings override the global setting. Check each group's configuration under Student Groups.
Q: Can I turn off all games at once without disabling them individually?
A: Yes. Set Games Allowed Days to Game Page Off. This hides the entire games page from students without changing the enabled state of individual games. When you want to restore access, simply choose a different day option.
