Q: What is School Year Configuration?

A: School Year Configuration is how you tell Book Taco when your current school year ends and when the next one begins. Book Taco uses those two dates to organize student reading activity by period, filter reports accurately, and transition students to the next year automatically — without any manual action at the start of the new school year.

Once configured, your Teacher Panel displays a status banner showing the current period's end date. As the year approaches its end, the banner shows a countdown. During the summer gap between the two years, any reading activity your students complete is never lost — it stays attached to the current year and remains available in your reports.

Who configures school years depends on your account type:

  • Independent paid teachers configure their own school year directly from the Teacher Panel.
  • Teachers linked to a Super User do not configure school years — they inherit the dates set by their Super User automatically.
  • Super Users configure the school year once and it is applied to all teachers linked to their account at the same time.
