How to Create a Quiz for a Book

You can create a quiz in Book Taco for books that don't already have one. Quizzes help assess student comprehension and hold them accountable for reading. Once you submit your quiz, it goes through a review process and is usually approved within 24–48 hours.

Before you start

There are two important things to know:

1. Only for books without existing quizzes

You can only create a quiz for books that don't already have one. If a book already has a quiz, you won't be able to create a new one for that title.

2. Paid plans only

Trial plan users cannot create quizzes. You'll need a paid subscription to create and submit quizzes.

How to create a quiz

1. Log in to your Book Taco teacher account.
2. Go to Manage Books from your teacher dashboard.
3. Open the Book Search tab.
4. Search for the book you want to create a quiz for.
5. Hover over the book cover.
6. If the book doesn't have a quiz yet, you'll see a Quiz option with a + icon (the create option).
7. Click Quiz to start the quiz builder.

The quiz creation process has three steps. Let's walk through each one.

Step 1: Legal stuff

First, you'll see the terms and conditions for creating and submitting quizzes. Read them carefully. The key points are:

• Your work is original — You confirm that the quiz is your own original work and doesn't use copyrighted material from other sources.
• License granted — By submitting your quiz, you grant Book Taco the right to use, share, and distribute it with other teachers and students using the platform.
• You keep ownership — You still own the quiz; you're just giving Book Taco permission to use it.

Once you've read and understand the terms, check the box that says "I agree to the terms and conditions" and click Next.

Step 2: Instructions

Next, you'll see guidelines for creating a quality quiz. These instructions explain:

• What types of questions work best
• How to write clear, fair questions
• What Book Taco looks for when reviewing quizzes
• Best practices for multiple-choice, true/false, and other question formats

Read through the instructions carefully — they'll help you create a quiz that passes review quickly. Once you're ready, click Next.

Step 3: Quiz form

Now you'll add your quiz questions. For each question, include:

• Question text — A clear comprehension question about the book
• Question type — Multiple choice, true/false, short answer, or other formats
• Answer options — For multiple choice, provide 3-4 plausible options
• Correct answer — Mark which option or response is correct

Add as many questions as you want to your quiz. Most teachers include 10–20 questions, but there's no strict limit. Make sure your questions cover different parts of the book and test real comprehension, not just detail recall.

Once you've added all your questions, review them carefully for:

• Clear, understandable wording
• Correct answers
• Fair difficulty level appropriate for the book
• Variety in question types and topics

When you're satisfied, click Submit.

What happens after you submit

After you submit your quiz:

1. Your quiz goes through a review process. The Book Taco team checks for quality, fairness, and accuracy.
2. You'll receive a notification when your quiz is approved or if revisions are needed.
3. Once approved, your quiz becomes available for your students and all Book Taco users to use with that book.
4. The approval process usually takes 24–48 hours, though it can vary.

Tip: Write questions that test understanding of main themes, character development, and plot points — not just minor details. This makes for a more meaningful assessment.

Note: Quizzes are shared across all Book Taco users. Once your quiz is approved, other teachers and students will also be able to use it when reading the same book. This means high-quality quizzes help your whole Book Taco community!
