As a Super User, you can add students directly to any teacher's classroom in your account — either one at a time or in bulk using a file or a paste. Students are always enrolled under a specific teacher, so you'll need to know which classroom each student belongs to before you begin.
Step 1: Open Manage Students
Go to Super User Panel → Students. The Manage Students page shows all students enrolled across your teachers and gives you access to both add methods from the top-right action bar.
If your account has exceeded its purchased seat limit, the Add new student and Bulk students buttons will be disabled. You will need to upgrade your plan before adding more students.
Step 2: Add one student at a time
Click Add new student. Fill in the form with the following information:
- Teacher (required) — select which teacher's classroom this student belongs to. Only regular Book Taco teachers appear in this list; Clever and ClassLink teachers cannot have students added manually.
- First Name and Last Name (required) — last name can also be just the first initial.
- Parent E-mail (optional) — used to send reading updates to the student's parent or guardian.
- Grade (required) — select the student's school grade, from Kindergarten (K) through 12th grade.
- Student group (optional) — assign the student to one of the selected teacher's existing groups.
- Unique username (required) — the student will use this to log in. Usernames must be unique across all of Book Taco.
- Password (required) — minimum 3 characters. A strength indicator appears as you type.
Click Save when done. The student is immediately added to the selected teacher's class.
Step 3: Add multiple students in bulk
Click Bulk students to open the Bulk Student Upload window. You have two options:
- Upload a file — upload a .xlsx, .xls, or .csv file. Click Download template file to get a pre-formatted file you can fill in and upload.
- Paste student data— type or paste student records directly into the text area, one per line, using this format:
firstname, lastname, username, grade, password
Once your data is ready, click Process Data. Book Taco will validate the records and create the student accounts.
Use the template file for bulk uploads whenever possible — it ensures the column order is correct and reduces import errors.
